Superfluous Submarines

I had the privilege of competing in the MATE underwater robotics competition for four years. Each year, we would design a ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicle) to compete against other high-school-aged teams. We were required to present our product with a fifteen-minute presentation and then demonstrate the robot’s ability to preform several pre-assigned tasks. Our ROV started with an aluminum chassis and four thrusters and ended with a carbon fiber/3D printed chassis with six degrees of freedom.

From learning how to operate as a team to doing original design and testing, MATE was an integral part of my transition into the workforce.
