1986 Mustang
Ludicrous Locimotion
I was bored one summer and decided not to be, so I started working on my dad’s project ‘86 Mustang. We took the engine out, cleaned it up, put it all back together, and got it running.
We also replaced the majority of the vacuum hoses, most of them were cracking
The engine was brushed and polished prior to reinstallation mostly using a Dremel tool with a wire brush. The valve covers were polished with Mothers Mag & Aluminum Polish.
Above, you can see us performing a fit check because a larger oil pan was added. We also had some trouble installing the starter motor. If I recall correctly, we have to downsize the starter in order to get it to fit.
To the right is the most complete picture I have of the engine bay. The car runs and drives, but there is still a lot of work before it is completely usable.
The removed engine before cleaning, it is a 351 Windsor which, translated into plain speak, is a 5.8 liter V8 most notably used in the F-150. The eventual plan is to install twin turbos and get a tad more power. The later models of this engine are capable of 500-600hp without causing damage, and the earlier models have reached 800-1000hp without damage.
